There should be a pre-boot checklist and at least 12 really satisfying knobs, chunky levers, and buttons. Plus some status lights and gauges, and some things that make a faint rising pitch hum as they power up.

yes! maybe also some parts that have to be slotted into other parts. maybe just one of those is fine.

I think they gave the Electric some extra/unique noises on startup because no engine starting which are cute, and I think it has one of those speakers that produces a whine to alert pedestrians to its presence

(not that its a pedestrian's job to have to avoid me, its my job to not hit anyone)

Oh there was a computer that almost did this: the G4 Cube. Not for booting up, but the upgrade experience was sublime:

1: flip computer upside down

2: extract the warp core

3: the faces of the sci-fi object you’re now holding contain the upgrade mount points
