a short reading inspired by the TTRPG Wanderhome

The Devildays Sun was bright as Beau ran through the grass sea of Miewel, not a care in his head. The little Calf with his fluffy brown fur and stomping boots would leap from puddle to mudpuddle, splashing up what little rain was left from the month of Monsoon. Mud and grass stains covered the bandage wraps around Beaus body, giving them a much more "earthy" look than his mother probably would have liked. Gleeful laughter caught on the warm winds and lifted up to the small and forgotten gods in the bright red branches of the trees nearby.

Beau was nearing the edge of the meadow now. A sturdy looking wooden fence set a sharp boundary where the grass sea ended, the soft blue glow of the aching woods just beyond it. Determined to find his way to the spot where he saw the star fall last night, Beau would not let anything stand in his way. He slowly backed up lowering his head, ready to charge through the fenceposts (even though he could easliy slip under the not so impeding barrier).

WHAM! Beau hit the bottom plank hard with his head and tumbled over it and onto the ground on the otherside.

laying in the cool mud, looking up at the glowing blue branches above, Beau quickly rearanged the flowers that had fallen out of the tufts of hair on his head. Picking them up one by one, and adding in a few of the pink blossoms from the fields, he made sure to position them around the nubs on his head where his horns should be growing in.

Now facing the woods infront of him, Beau felt slight aprehension in his heart. His mothers words rang in his head. "now now little-one be careful, the world is bigger than you can wrap your head around. You can learn much more useful things in this classroom than in the grass." NO! Beau exclaimed out loud. He shook his head and began striding into the forest with renewed vigor. He knew what he saw, and he knew what he came here to do. That star is somewhere in these woods, and its probably scared and alone like him. He is going to find it and together they can make a place that will never end.

Once again Beau lowered his head, and ran, disapearing into the blue glow of the trees.
