This is a decent introduction to the frankly weak Heisei era. All films from this period (1984-1995) suffer for their incredible kaiju designs, limiting fight choreography. There’s also some series low writing on display and the damn trend of psychics in fiction that swept Japan in the 80s is alive and well here too. So why dive in? Well, no other kaiju films look quite like the Heisei Godzillas between the elaborate production design and 90s take on Showa era filmmaking. They also share a sort of anime like continuity & sweetness to them, kawaii even at times. If this grabs you give the 90s King Ghidorah a shot as both of these films have a strong Mecha bent.
