SHIN GODZILLA

Wonder where they’ll land. Is this a Anno film hidden in a Godzilla production? Or is this a Godzilla film hidden in a Anno production.

A Japanese Godzilla getting a wide release in the US for the first time in over twenty years (last one was Godzilla 2000) is nothing to scoff at. Absolutely loved it. The kind of big emotions disaster melodrama everyone jeers at as if any old hack can whip one of these up. You might protest, “isn’t it nationalistic as fuck?” I would counter, “have you seen a Godzilla film before?” I’ll add it’s handily superior to Shin Godzilla in the spaces both films explore and much more impressive for making a big dumb blockbuster with this much earnestness and panache. Big recommendation.
