Dino De Laurentiis produced schlocker had me at odds with with it’s trashy, but flashy Jaws knockoff production which repulses in act one and had me on the edge of my seat by act three. Could be argued this is a “pro-life” movie. Equal parts a waste of it’s cast and expert use of practical FX all to deliver a monster movie surprisingly sympathetic to said monster. You never object (certainly not after the shocking but mercifully faked animal gore), but you wouldn’t expect better from a film aping another famous for it’s disastrous image making of an entire species.
