wow. EVGA is exiting the GPU market entirely, not just switching to AMD or Intel. absolutely crazy, especially only like 3 days before the 40-series announcement. hope they actually do take care of their GPU division employees...

Nvidia's business practices have been absolute trash garbage for years but EVGA shuttering their video card business is shocking and has the smell of the leading edge of a (minor?) industry collapse. The general lack of GPU availability has meant game developers have been developing toward current-gen hardware for a minute which is a huge brake on the new video card flywheel that prior to crypto shit was the driving force for GPU development.

I wonder if they start making AMD cards for the RX 7000 series -- they just started making ryzen mainboards so I imagine the relationship between AMD and EVGA is pretty good right now

yeah I suspect the thing that came between them and nvidia was either silicon allocations or wholesale chip prices changing substantially for the worse with RTX 4000 so maybe it's once bitten, twice shy

yeah from what i understand it's allocation + NVIDIA directly competing with AIB partners with their FE cards + being generally super controlling.

according to what GN heard they've been making a loss of hundreds of dollars on each card recently...

jesus. and yeah I've heard that the top-binning of FE cards has gotten more and more aggressive over the past couple generations, to the point where it's barely worth making AIBs any more

Honestly the idea that devs might just….build for the current gen of hardware for A While is the most compelling reason I can imagine to upgrade my old “gaming PC from Woot.com” from, uh, 2016.
