this ties in a lot to my thoughts on advertising psychology (immense hatred)
the normalization of AI art is another step towards throwing away our free will
cuz art is inherently political
allowing a single source to decide what information and ideology it encodes into the art and therefore passes onto us subconsciously
right now there's nothing, it's just shitting out garbage ideology based on the dataset
but you can tune that dataset and fuck it up
and push your ideas through other people generating art with it and they will never even know
nudge theory and all that
i know this is SUCH a common pattern even outside of AI, and literally every single major online platform pulls shit like this
and of course every single advertisement is manipulative
It's not insane, it shouldn't even be controversial. You don't even have to go to socialist theory for this one (although Debord is informative and this relates back to something I was talking with @TalenLee about the other day); you can just go to Marshall McLuhan, "Understanding Media":
[A] medium is not something neutral—it does something to people. It takes hold of them. It rubs them off, it massages them and bumps them around, chiropractically, as it were[...]
"AI art" - really filtering through machine learning systems - carries its own crypto-fascist ideology independent of even any intentionality; all human art is just pink slime (per @Vogon), grist to be endlessly mixed into mediocre replicas of the source material. It's anti-labor and anti-human. It devalues art created with artistic intention and so is directly harmful to artists. It's content in the truest fashion, packing peanuts with no meaning.
