I don't get hopelessness about revolutionary politics in the US at this point, but I guess it's because I'm old enough to have been a working adult when 9/11 happened.

The years after were an absolute nadir for left politics of any type; WTO 99 should have been and seemed like it was the mark of a massive left-wing resurgence that was pretty much instantly crushed in 2001. It took until Occupy to even begin to recover any kind of general socialist politics. Meanwhile, we're a few years out from the most radical and sharpest mass uprising since probably the early 90s. We're watching the most aggressive labor organizing and strike campaigns since at least that long making great strides. Ten years ago - after Occupy! - the idea of tech organizing was still completely illegible; we're now seeing game studios and smaller companies winning contracts, and aggressive minority campaigns in larger tech companies continuing to expand. We're back on an upswing and continuing to gain ground. Yes, opportunistic crap orgs like DSA are quiet now but that's because they were only there to exploit rising sentiment that didn't have anywhere to go, which is no longer the case. Go out and find your people.
