mine is that magic systems that try and be all realistic and grounded instead of just letting you cast fireballs and stuff suck
A funny corollary to this is that almost every series I can think of with a Realistic Grounded Magic System ALSO winds up doing at least one of two things (and frequently does both):
- Has characters pushing the limits of the Realistic Grounded Magic System so far that they push through into doing Fireball Magic anyways, and/or:
- Has a second, separate system of magic that IS basically just Fireball Magic and it's almost always way more cool and powerful than the Realistic Grounded Magic System
