stumbled across retrobytes on youtube today and this video about the internals of dialup networking is pretty fascinating

my favorite part so far is the one where he reflects on how, because of the way dialup networking worked, all you needed to start a small-scale ISP was a computer, some extra phone lines and modems, and an internet connection

edit to add: I just got to the part where he went into depth about BT deregulation and how a computer retailer squeezed most of the indie ISPs out of the market with freeserve, and now that's my favorite part of the video
