as much as i actually like linux as a daily driver laptop OS i really really REALLY fucking hate pulseaudio, its by far the component that gives me grief the most. i just want to be able to use headphones sometimes i don't understand why this has to be so fucking difficult.
it doesn't even recognize that anythings been plugged into the 3.5mm jack. i can't do anything to force it away from the internal speakers.
the worst part is that pretty much every distro uses pulseaudio, including linux mint which is the one i like best. i know i could build arch from scratch but i don't want to nor do i really know enough to feel comfortable doing that at this point.
this laptop does all sorts of cool shit that does work! it has a touchscreen and i can auto-rotate the screen with the orientation! the function keys work perfectly, i can mirror or extend the screen with HDMI, and i can do all sorts of Normal Computer Stuff like use Telegram and Firefox and Discord and what have you.
BUT I CANT USE HEADPHONES. WHY? WHY IS THIS SO HARD? CERTAINLY THERE ARE HARDWARE INTERRUPTS YOU'RE CATCHING THAT CAN BE INTERPRETED AS "HEADPHONES PLUGGED IN"
I hate Pulseaudio so fucking much. I hate that Lennart Poettering has brought the Mac-style "It Just Works Except If It Doesn't You're Just Fucked, Eat Shit" style of systems development to Linux. Maybe pipewire will lead us out of the woods once the big kinks are ironed out.
