this gorgeous girl materialized on my back door yesterday and did not respond as i went in and out of the house, so my first thought was that she had stuck herself to the door and then perished. i tried poking her a little yesterday to see if she was, in fact, alive, and got no response, but i don't know from moths so i let her be.

today she's still there, so i tried poking her a little more until one of her little feeties dislodged from the door, and she did the usual "hey get off of me" leg-shake and returned to her position

What Is Going On What Is She Doing How Can I Help. i don't mind if she just stays there, but why has The Biggest Bug I've Ever Seen installed herself on my door. should i offer her a carrot slice

THEY SURE ARE! This is what she was waiting for, booty in the air to let her pheromones drift on the breeze and bring all the boys to your yard.

Congratulations on hosting the miracle of life on your door! Or at least part of it, presumably the egg-laying portion is going to happen in the vicinity of whatever the caterpillars like to eat, which is probably not doors.
