Someone who transforms into a robot, not when the moon is full, but instead when installing software updates. This happens automatically when there’s an update available and they’re connected to wifi, which they can’t do if there’s no network or they don’t know the password. Therefore you can sometimes trigger their transformation yourself by telling them the wifi password if they don’t already know it, which is kinda funny…

Oh, and bonus points if the form they change into is a robotic wolf!

I did think about this a little bit and I’m not really sure. The idea spawned from me being pissed off about my windows pc always needing to update, like, while I’m fucking using it, with no real way to turn auto-updates off (only delay them for I think a month at a time), so maybe they’re running windows? shudders

The most likely answer is that it’s some kind of software that synths typically use. Doesn’t have to be ā€œthe software that is their entire brainā€, could just be something silly like a web browser.

Like… they're absolutely 0% robot in their default form, but their body somehow, metaphysically, automatically connects itself to the internet and installs software updates for itself anyway? I really hope i have this mental image correct because this is an enthralling idea and i need to know more about how it's supposed to work

I was imagining that somehow or another a tiny part of their brain is ā€œrunning a computer programā€ that checks for the updates, or that maybe part of their brain is physically a computer. However, your version is way more interesting, and either way there’s some magic afoot :P

Aah, that makes the other thread make more sense

Well the first possibility is kinda the same, just more grounded by using something physical instead of just the raw essence of the person's being?

I'd still be very curious to know if you had any ideas for how that works—how a piece of presumably normal, organic gray matter happened to develop into a software emulator, start running something that happens to be able to force the body to TF when run on a brain, and start logging that program onto Wi-Fi networks using whatever knowledge is in the rest of the mind. I love the idea of it just being a freak cosmic coincidence, i guess i'm just craving slightly more connective tissue on the wacky TF logic

Actually, is the person even aware of what's going on in their soul-slash-head, or did they only hit upon it after putting the pattern of the network connection together? Because i was thinking the latter, but there could also be some other cool effects if it augments their perception or cognition from time to time

Aauugghh this idea is already running as privileged in my mind, are you planning to do anything with it or could i pretty please try making my own character out of it?

Well, with lycanthropy, it’s a ā€œcurseā€, right, so I was thinking of this under that same term. Maybe how it comes to be is a bit more sci-fi in nature just because of the robot theming? ā€œI put a chip in my brain but it got infected with a magic computer virusā€ or something? Or something more out-there, like ā€œa huge metaphysical explosion jumbled up a bunch of the ideas surrounding my existing lycanthropy and inextricably fused it to the concept of robotsā€.

As for making your own character based on this idea, absolutely go for it! Maybe I’ll do something else with the concept myself and we can compare the directions we each took it in! I love seeing others getting inspired by my silly tf chosts :)
