This week's Arcade Archives release is... Bubble Bobble (Taito, 1986)... Well, on Switch it is, anyway.

Switch
EU
US

This came out quite a few years ago on Playstation 4 but for whatever reason, similar to a handful of other earlier Arcade Archives releases, it was held off on Switch until now. Switch players have had a version available, sort-of, as a bonus in Bubble Bobble 4 Friends, but this is the real Arcade Archives deal.

I, er, actually don't have too much to say on this one, it's a very famous game! Still, having a proper official portable version of the arcade version is nice. I may as well share some tips with you though, starting with the three codes you can enter on the title screen via arcade-history:

Power-Up - Left, Jump, Left, 1P, Left, Fire, Left, 1P (You'll start the game with the Speed-Up Shoes and all three Candies- faster bubbles, longer-reaching bubbles and rapid-fire bubbles)
Original Mode - Bubble, Jump, Bubble, Jump, Bubble, Jump, Right, 1P (Whether you die or not, you'll gain access to the secret rooms in Rounds 20, 30 and 40)
Super Mode - 1P, Jump, Bubble, Left, Right, Jump, 1P, Right (You'll be able to select the Super Mode which shuffles enemies around and is needed for the true ending)

The Bubble Bobble Info Pages by Stephen Tjasink and Paul Rahme might be helpful too, as they contain info on what spawns the power-up items and all sorts of other hidden secrets, because this game has an absolute ton of mysteries to solve. Otherwise, the truth is lost in the darkness forever...

... OK, OK, one last thing, just a little humblebrag. If you've ever played the fan-made hack Bubble Bobble Lost Cave, be sure to pay attention during the true end's credits, my name is there!
