the sonic the comic uk recap podcast i listen to took an unexpected turn into discussing the origins of Yerf, and as interesting as it is to see the original zines and con posters from the 80s, there's something really neat about hearing about the things we just (relatively speaking) missed
it was 2003-2004 1 where we started lurking around the fandom, and by that time yerf was a name we never heard over places like VCL and then FA as far as general art sites went

I've realized while writing this we could probably get a more exact date by looking through something awful's awful link of the day archives, because some of those links definitely served as inspirations... but that would also mean looking at something awful, and nah, not today
