Amazing. People complain about the lack of disclosure in modern UI, but then thereβs this to remind us of the other end of the spectrum. π€―
The numbers tell you the order in which the operations are applied. The app's actually not that complicated, you just go to the group with the operation you want, configure it, watch the live preview.
ok honestly though bulk rename utility had amazing UX. yeah it looks a bit cluttered at first but you use it once or twice and get a feel for how things work and it becomes a joy to use
What you all have to understand is that this tool is amazing. This is good design, because this product is doing EXACTLY what it's users need and want. You need access to a large number of options. You don't want to hide discoverability because there's no way to predict use case when the user opens this program. They need to rename a bunch of stuff, so here's all the possible use cases, and if you need something else you have instant access to all of it. THIS IS GOOD DESIGN FOR ITS USE CASE AND IF YOU IGNORE WHAT YOUR USERS ACTUALLY NEED IN FAVOR OF "CLEAN" DESIGN AND "STANDARD" DESIGN PRINCIPLES THEN I WISH YOU TO BE BANISHED TO WHITESCAPE HELL.
UI designers out here making god damn pop up callouts of features with tutorialized walk throughs that literally nobody wants because they don't actually help you discover what you want to do. And the reason nobody can discover anything is that you hid it in the first place!
If someone wants a slightly less bonkers way to bulk rename files, check out PowerToys Rename
