they're not paying the mods they have working at FA. they're volunteering.
that's an issue in its own right, because anyone being forced to work on a site like that and handle all those sorts of things should be getting paid for their time, but.
From one of the mods in the FA discord defending the decision (Luffy, per the screenshot i saw collaging a bunch of their posts):
you are making this situation infinitely harder for moderation who are already stretched thin, unpaid, working their IRL jobs atm, and being harassed personally over this policy update.
buddy. it's not your fucking job to run cover for a shitty business, especially if they're not paying you. why are you prostrating yourself like an absolute dumbass if you're not even getting compensated for your own embarassment
I know it's that whole thing where The People Who Choose To Be Forum Moderators do it because they're attracted to the power, and the title, and then see the responsibility and accountability as inconvenient at best and personal slight at worst.
But I still don't get it. Why put yourself through that, is it worth it? Everyone else sees you for the stooge that you are even more when stuff like this happens, even more than it was already an implicit understanding that you were one based on limited dealings and trouble tickets.
