quite frustrating to see friends who took a concerted effort to get off twitter, went to mastodon, and now have to move instances and have months of work just tossed out because their server is shutting down
regardless of any other opinions on it, the idea of account migration there is a joke
yeah regardless of any other thoughts i have on bluesky, the fact they've factored this in so that you can upload your backup to any public data server is significantly better (...once there are other public data servers)

yeah most things on there take wayyyyy too much work. ever try to follow someone from someone else's following list, that doesn't show up in the top 20 or whatever? hope you like taking 50 steps instead of one
do you want to contribute to the fediverse and run your own instance so you can be sure you aren't getting in anyone's way, not running afoul of any rules, and helping make room for others who can't do so too? you get an even worse user experience because the software wasn't written with this in mind
i have to run an external python script in a cron job that manually scrapes other instances in order to have replies on other peoples' posts
This has always been my biggest issue with Masto. I never really messed with it because of all those problems inherent to itβs format especially for something that at the end of the day is just more twitter.
it's also so much more work than twitter, i can't get mad at people who don't move to mastodon
instead i must force them to cohost /s
goodness yeah, separate instances does complicate things, from migration to different mods and so on
