according to my journals, it's apparently the 1 year anniversary of vrchat adding easy anti-cheat

a decision very few were happy with, but i am glad they pivoted hard into readding most of the accessibility features that they broke

(a friend gifted me a month of vrchat+ earlier that month, possibly even within that week. to date, i've still yet to renew it despite how much use i've made of VRC since then)

I was extremely upset when they added EAC to VRC, and stopped playing altogether once they added it. They way they stealth launched it, it really felt like a distinctly awful decision made to spite the community rather than aid it.

I'm super glad to hear they eventually added in the features they broke with the EAC rollout - I honestly believe that inbuilt answers are often superior to mods - but the fact that they still ask players to sacrifice so much security to participate is unsettling to me.

I'll always personally feel really bad about the EAC update, because it took a world of wonder and delight away from me.

Yeah, a lot of our group didn't move to Chillout (and until Neos removes all reference to the crypto from their website, that remains right out for many), so we kind of stayed in VRC because of inertia, but it took months before some people we know could access again.

At least for us, we have the luxury of the machines used for VRC only being used for gaming, with minimal access to other accounts, but yeah, never great from a security perspective.

Totally understandable - VRC is the clearly superior product in a lot of ways. From what I understand the interface for Chillout is obtuse, and the crypto alignment of Neos is a gigantic red flag. Plus, the community on either platform (as well as available worlds and resources) is practically nil. With their recent updates VRC is absolutely superior, and thriving!

Kernel level access on a machine will always make me uncomfortable, but I begin to understand that maybe I'm oversensitive. Perhaps I'm just denying myself something special for no benefit.

Still, beyond that, I'm very glad VRC added so many accessibility and QoL features in the wake of that roll out. They really could have just... Not done that, like so many other devs might've! It showed they listen to their community and work with them.
