thinking about retro console mods, particularly the destructive ones - after seeing a PS2 HDMI kit that was non-destructive [^1] up until the point of having to make heavy cuts to the RF shielding

how finding an original game boy(/colour/advance) without an IPS screen of some description will only become harder and harder as time goes on

on the one hand it's cool as shit that you can take an inexpensive microcontroller and make your own gamecube modchip (and i think that one's non-destructive?)
but also i wince a bit at seeing dremels be taken to things that are no longer being produced, even mass produced consumer items that have plenty of non-working examples to scavenge spare parts from (right now)

but then agan i suppose i have no real horse in this race from always preferring the convenience of emulation where possible, and the only real exceptions to that being things like linking pokémon stadium up with the game boy games which is doable with emulation but annoying as shit
(i have to imagine the same is probably true of ps2 to psp, but for some reason i've never felt the need to unlock the bonus items in Jak X: Combat Racing)
if i ever hook up my wii, it's to rip a disc to use in dolphin

[^1] for one specific model of PS2 slim, anyway
