i have a bluesky account now, because a friend mentioned in VR that they'd left twitter and missed my posts
i get that i am probably not using it in the intended way (desktop only via the web interface, not installing any mobile apps on anything)
but... every interaction with it makes me struggle to understand why it's so popular with furries.
like, i get that it's the easiest drop-in replacement for twitter
that many people have been burned in one way or another by mastodon
and that here doesn't give people their Numbersā¢ which can be an issue for artists
but there are so many basic things either missing or unnecessarily complicated or farmed out to a third party who has done one of those unnecessarily complicated things who you have to hope doesn't start charging
i tried posting the above GIF 1 there and it converted it, without warning, to a single frame JPEG, which feels like one of the worst ways possible of handling it
even with the web interface not being bluesky's main focus
why is it that with effectively all the money in the world by comparison
cohost and even 2017-2018 era mastodon are/were so far ahead in terms of "basic functionality and usability that would be expected from something to replace twitter"
