an urgent 6am need to plan things that won't happen until 2025 at earliest

(if anyone has any advice on the travel parts, let us know)

we have a special note in obsidian detailing the most linked notes that do not yet exist

blfc was at the top of that list yesterday (presumably why we woke up with it on our mind), and now it isn't.

and even just since writing those initial thoughts down, we've realized something that changes a pretty big chunk of the mental image: the fursuit doesn't need to come on this trip.
we don't want to have to baby it through at least 13 hours of flights and airports each way plus transport on each side.
if we don't have checked luggage, we don't have any of the same anxiety over connections; we can pick whatever's fastest end to end and avoid london heathrow if we can.
we also don't have to worry about things like TSA approved locks.
and this is not a con we want to go to for the con itself, to be in public spaces. it is a con we want to go to to see people and critters we dearly love, and that already know our preferred Shapes.

after realizing the dates were on Twitter but not on the con's website, booked the AL (and had it approved).

i still don't know that we'll able to make it out this year or if we need to wait for next year

but we have to at least try, right?

Clover is definitely on the money there.

As for the other points:

  • Jet lag: make sure you see the general period around sunset, try to time your sleeping on the plane(s) to line up with your intended sleep schedule at the con, and don't be afraid to use caffeine and melatonin to kick your sleep schedule in the right direction. A quick and dirty sleep schedule shift should be good enough for a con, but throwing in a few days of buffer time before is potentially a good idea, depending on how easily your sleep schedule shifts!
  • Public transit in Reno is mediocre even by US standards, but the hotel shuttle does run pretty often. Regardless, many of your friends at the con will have driven to it, the GSR has quite a few restaurants, and there's a Walmart a five minute walk away.
  • I'm not sure what travel insurance plans are available in the UK, but I managed to get CAD$10,000,000 of medical coverage for CAD$3.33/day. In any case, I figure it's probably going to be inexpensive for the medical component specifically; cancellation insurance tends to cost way more.
  • For all flight connections, I'd recommend trying to get at least an hour of layover at each β€” though if that kicks up the price by even Β£50, it's probably not worth it. I just like having that kind of safety margin for cases where delays occur.
