so, bought this before the yuzu thing happened, so have put some time into it
it's more splatoon single player, which isn't a bad thing, but it also does feel pretty distinctly a first attempt at a roguelite
there's a handful of floor objectives and it doesn't seem too long before you've seen all the potential variations of those floors to the extent of going oh no, it's this one when a level loads.
you will always fight two bosses from a pool of 3, followed by the same final boss.
all the choice about which upgrade to take is incremental. there is never much sense that "if i take this one thing, it will completely change how i play the game" - unlike say vampire survivors, where the right item or evolution at the right time can mean the difference between failure and success to the extent you can leave the game idle
the closest that happens is you stock up on drone upgrades (which can be overpowered if fully upgraded with a lot of incremental chips) and then you get a floor that blocks use of the drone
there's some narrative but i wouldn't call it worth the price of admission if it's all you care about. there was no sense of amazement like octo expansion's finale.
it's there and it's decent but it is also extremely easy to skip
