maybe im wrong (edit: i am) but i feel like pretty much everyone knows their own timezone offset. but i have no idea what e.g. pdt is without looking it up (it's -7)

that's fair. but either way i think knowing your own is more reasonable than everyone else having to know all of them, even if it's not perfect
splitting the workload over everyone knowing one thing rather than a few people having to learn... a lot
I always gotta look up what timezone it even is at any given point of the year 😩

Yeah, it's definitely something that takes getting used to. I wish there was an app that could just translate it right on your phone but the only ones that are out there are made for older phones
