a few weeks behind on podcasts, have just got to the point where apple added "spatial personas" to vision pro - actually allowing you to be in a shared space with friends (who have also paid $3500+) rather than on a video wall
and they're praising how good and low latency the eyetracking is.
that you can hold a finger up and watch your friend's eyes follow it around the room
and i immediately paused because i've seen this same trick done before
a wolfgal following the mock eye test, and ears twisting as she does
using deprecated hardware that is only more and more difficult to purchase
again, it strikes me that only two things would be needed to at least put the vision pro in consideration for some friends despite the cost
- ALVR or virtual desktop being officially open for anyone to get
- face and eye tracking being opened up beyond the human simulacra
that's it. that's all. it might be expensive, but there aren't that many options when it comes to headsets with face tracking, and even less if you value the hardware still being supported
