So yeah, don't believe him when he says he was threatened. Him comparing the situation HE CAUSED to Near's is disgusting.
this is deeply tragic
and yet, based on the events described, that is a serious bullet dodged. far better to give it a clean end than let organized hate take it over. damn
scaling community is really, really hard, because community isn't just about having a place, it's about the people knowing each other and taking time to care about each other. it absolutely makes sense that the site struggled with that given how popular retrocomputing has become
and of course the corporations are always circling with their legal threats, which, fuck that. fucking vultures. it does get expensive and stressful dealing with that crap, we know from watching friends go through it
we're making sure to download a copy of all the stuff while we can, follow the link from that post to the internet archive to do that. we encourage anyone who has eleven gigs to spare to do the same. the best way to preserve things is for lots of people to have copies of them
