order placed: september 2022
order arrived: today

something to test later - my key indicator has to be "how easy are these to work with at 5am"

but at least greater chance of staying cozy under blankets

an excellent start to attempting to test using mac

(also java, in this day and age???)

ok, definitely some teething problems (in this video, going from standing to sitting down, raising left leg, raising right leg). some of the mounting settings must be wrong/aren’t clear

i do think there’s some benefits here - despite initial impressions, the straps do seem a bit better on my broad paws than the tundras we got because we assumed these wouldn’t be coming this side of our birthday

but for the key question for us of “is this better/simpler at 5am than the tundras”…. no.

even if they were working 100% and ignoring the fact there’s 8 straps to deal with here rather than 3, then providing steamvr is working properly to connect the tundras, there’s still more to juggle in your head with these

maybe once december hits and it gets very, very cold again and we need to be under blankets
or if we have a reason to use vrchat without steamvr tracking?

(also when did cohost stop supporting AVIFs)

(this may not play smoothly in all browsers or may only do so after a number of loops, try firefox if others are giving problems)

today i have been working on:

getting AVIF formatting working for the website because i noticed how big one of the GIFs was
and then hyperfixations led me to do a number of tests on best format to use
and then figuring out the best way to automate the conversion

so enjoy this commission made by beelzeburb on twitter that i had completely forgotten about

technical stats:
the source file is a 1280x720 mp4, 643KB
i like to downscale stuff for the website so it's 1200 in the largest dimension - so as a 1200x675 AVIF, it's 391KB
without cutting down frames, the fallback 500x281 GIF generated is 13.1MB??
(i think imagemagick is choking a bit on the background gradient, but still)

This post has content warnings for: macro, flip flops, animated, paws, but actually i'm using this to talk about animated image formats.
