another project for the backburner, backing up and consolidating my procreate library
which would be substantially easier if procreate performed like most iOS apps
from their FAQ:
How do I backup my artworks?
To keep your data safe, create a full backup of your iPad or iPhone using your computer or iCloud.
...Can I sync my work to iCloud?
Currently, iCloud syncing is not available with Procreate or Procreate Pocket. Given the average size of a Procreate document, multiplied by however many you have in your Gallery, this could rapidly consume your entire iCloud space allowance.
...
to me it does not feel reasonable to force a full device restore if you accidentally delete an important picture that hasn't been backed up manually 1 - compared to just recovering from the icloud recycle bin or similar
the storage space argument is valid on the free tier, but on the free tier, things like "taking photos" or "backing up your phone in any way" will also rapidly consume your entire allowance
that's a decision between the user and apple
so here is a reminder to ⚠️ back up your files ⚠️
especially if you have multiple ipads that have disparate galleries (e.g. having the ipad mini as a doodle pad) - because if you ever restore one of those from the wrong backup, say goodbye to everything that was only on that one
-
(to do so: select in the gallery view, and either share > procreate > save to files/airdrop - or drag and drop to the ipad's files app. may also want to export a PNG as well so it's clear which Untitled Artwork is which)
