i liked the windows Metro ui, and i've just set windows 10 to be full-screen Start as such, i've been setting up tiles how i want em

no i do the same thing, but i have the excuse of once being a zune/windows phone 7 user

but if i'm not typing to search, it's an app we use all the time, you build up muscle memory for where those things are located on the grid... at least until you use a different monitor

3am and suddenly hit by ideas for the domain we want to make more use of

including ideas involving the metro design language which i'm not sure will be great without javascript/on modern devices but the only way we'll find out is to try

any time i see that happen, i always get a little nostalgic for it; i really did love the metro UI a lot (even if it also felt like it got a bit worse/closer to other phones as time went on), and it's probably the only reason i was less harsh on windows 8 ¹ than a lot of other people

it didn't ever have a lot of apps, but it had ones that i really needed at a rough time (i think there was an app called metrotube for downloading from youtube, and with very limited sporadic access to wifi for a while, i used that a lot).

the kicker for moving to iPhone wasn't any functionality for the basics being missing, though that probably wasn't too far away from happening with how much worse groove music seemed than the zune app it replaced

1. i will always be harsh on windows server 2012 (not R2) though, it should have taken approximately 2 seconds to realize that when using RDP in windowed mode, no start button + no keyboard shortcuts made for a Bad Time
