a lot of git tutorials make the assumption that you're using it in an enterprise environment with a lot of people that are making changes and so make a lot of suggestions that just aren't helpful for single users starting out
but i feel like there's a middle ground here and this is a topic i'd like people to be less scared of, so let's at least break down these commands a little
