over the last few weeks i have been
working on an rss/atom feed reader.

i named it vore, and run a hosted
instance here: https://vore.website

vore (noun combining form)
ˌvō(ə)r, ˌvȯ(ə)r, ˌvōə, ˌvȯ(ə)
: one that eats (something specified)

vore is dead simple. it has 1 goal:
subscribe to a list of feeds and
display their posts to you.

since vore consumes feeds, i
thought the name was perfect!!
i can't resist controversial
names apparently :3

to me, there are "controversial names" and then there are "profoundly unsearchable names"

googling (or more realistically in this case, duckduckgo-ing) even "vore rss" will most likely not lead the users of this back to it as the first result, even with safe search set to strict. "vore support" will presumably bring up some 00s webcomic from when so many people complained about cubicles, with that one having working lunches as its main gimmick.

at least the Vegas Off-Road Experience has their full name to fall back on, even if they often don't

(admittedly it will also be pretty funny if the tech press picks this up)

it's interesting going through these and being able to dismiss a lot out of hand because there are games in my queue that i still need to play/replay/complete

an action tower defense game? a. i'm bad at those, and b. until i revisit brütal legend (possibly with some kind of mod for the stage battles), anything else in this genre will be a lower priority

a hard 2D platformer with NES or SNES-style graphics? sorry, i still need to at least attempt climbing celeste mountain first ¹.

and then you get the ones that have been in early access since 2014, the ones where one day, updates just stopped, where i can only assume the developers just ran out of money at some point

there's something freeing about making notes on all of these whether they stay or go, to no longer have to try and remember "this is an FPS by one of the few developers to ever put their own spin on the katamari formula so I'll at least give them the benefit of the doubt", or "this is henry hatsworth but with base building instead of platforming" or "this has a very cute dragon in it and just enough other stuff right to still stay here"

Almost through my first-time watch of season 4 (exercycling through at 3 episodes weekly), despite a few clunker stories I'm still having a blast
