I loved this site
in hindsight that's one of those things i could've settled for liking, not sharing. I pulled the share back but it's far too late now
i wish like
just like how you can add tags to thing with a shares, you could add CWs to them
i would really like this, too.
i would add this as a suggestion, but it'd require a painful amount of spoons from me.
i did share it initially, but i since deleted it - after thinkin a little, i think it's something that i'd probably feel a little more comfortable sharing if i could control it's visibility, yknow.
the intersection of tags, tag filtering and shares feels a little unclear, which i guess makes sense, there's a lot there. mostly, i wonder:
if that is the actual behaviour (can't really test on my own), then throwing a #suicide tag is probably the best solution here. keeps the post mostly visible (since lets be fair, the visibility was at least partially the point of the post in this situation), while giving people an easy opt-out of seeing it if it's too distressing to them.
I tagged a share-post with a muffled test tag and it only hid my reply, leaving the things I was sharing unhidden.
annoying. does it do that if you share without any content as well (ie. only adding tags)?
like you share-and-added a post with a muffled tag, and only your addition was hidden, making it appear on the timeline as a transparent share?
no, it was like
[shared thread post 1, visible]
[shared thread post 2, visible]
[my reply, post 3, hidden behind muffle]
ah i see. i forgot muffles have the expando so it still shows up. there's so many nuances to Information
I clicked that link you linked because you said it was important to read, and was completely unprepared for the second post, and did not finish reading it or anything after, for what should probably be obvious reasons. What the fuck, dude? So I had to see the kys image repeatedly and then see that too on top of it? What the fuck was the point of that? Was the stuff you thought people needed to read after the extremely graphic descriptions of abuse, or what?
I'm sorry. I already remade this post in order to add a content warning I thought would be sufficient. I will strengthen the warning and make it stand out more immediately. I'm very sorry I didn't word it stronger or more clearly and I apologize. I will be more careful in the future.
the stuff people need to read is an angry post by someone who was hurt by said image, because the OP and presumably some other people don't think it's their responsibility to even make a small amount of effort to not hurt people.
it wasn't for you; you already knew.
whoa op's replies to you in that thread are also pretty chilling to me. like they literally do think it's praxis to share this and are saying "why should I do anything, it's antifash" when like, to me, the most antifash behavior is to have community with the vulnerable, not to make memes that disproportionately affect them. whiff of tankie, maybe
this is very puzzling

so overall yeah i'm just getting a quicksilver contrarian vibe here and i'm fine just blocking. it's sad though, because @cohostunionnews is a great account. feels weird to find out the person who runs it is pretty ice cold about this
i think they're complaining about the general use of a heavy cw mechanism for things that should be opt-in.
i will give them credit, after I asked they tagged their post "suicide" to set off the tag muffling for anyone who has "suicide" muffled, (the closest thing to a "light" cw level that cohost has) and they locked shares on the post, after I and others asked them to do something. they did do that.
You know I was wondering for a while yesterday who the person responsible was, because not a single person I follow had rehosted the image or anything. Now I just woke up and suddenly remembered I unfollowed Alyaza a little while ago, because I was disappointed in how they treated Eevee when commenting on one of her posts. So on a hunch I go to check their page and... welp.
I hope they get better about how they treat people and stop being so stubborn.
i have to say it is super informative in post to be able to add a note to someone's account here, which lets you attribute exactly what led to you blocking them. i've wanted that feature forever elsewhere, i used it extensively in eve online but twitter has fucking nothing
that's a really good point, i never thought about it like that and it makes total sense. thank you for posting, also thank you @atomicthumbs for surfacing this issue.
imo it's a credit to this platform that we can even have these kind of discussions
op's answer to your comment on the picture is so... hahaha... i guess cohost can't be cool and kind all the time
Feel incredibly galled by anyone saying "but it's praxis to post antifash things like this, what, do you not support the antifash message??" while posting something that fascists will literally never see because it's cohost, not bluesky or twitter or gab, but all their queer friends who have been similarly traumatized will absolutely see it. You raise this point in the post and I don't think it can be emphasized enough, the lack of compassion for other queer people tells me that they are just not that safe to be around, union news source or no. In a world where everyone wants us dead, the least we could do is have courtesy for each other.
I also find it a bit funny how much their argument was like "where's the rule that says I need to do this? Other people are definitely doing worse stuff than me." You're a socialist dynamo but can't imagine a better world where you don't rely on implied tattling and exhaustive specific rules? Very young person with hopefully a LOT to learn
