Rutu Modan’s Exit Wounds is a strong read. I think she’s only gotten better since it came out (Tunnels might honestly be the best Israeli comic ever), but this one is still a strong baseline—Modan has a really sharp eye for locale and populace, and her cartooning is a lot of fun.
