ALIENS: LABYRINTH is a story whose on-paper beats would be easy to phone in except the creative team just absolutely nail the requisite tone of menace and manipulation it needs. A really tight, uncomfortable, gorgeous piece of work.
I read CHOPPER: SONG OF THE SURFER this morning, and it’s a tremendous bit of comics. Wagner’s grasp of that struggle of the immensity of emotion against absolute bleakness is on top form, with maybe the best art I’ve ever seen from MacNeil.
A.C. Esguerra’s EIGHTY DAYS is a wonder of a comic. It engages itself with a striking confidence and a tremendous emotional grasp, with absolutely gorgeous cartooning. A book that brims with the vitality of the love it tries—and very much succeeds—to evoke. Big fan of this one.
