Hmm... From my gamer nerd perspective... I've seen multiple ttrpg bestiaries that have listings for Genies but I don't think I've seen Genies listed as a playable species in any. ...this actually brings up the idea that anyone who isn't a playable species is a monster though... which isn't ideal. For one, I think it's time for Genies to get their playable goblin ttrpg glow-up, and secondly, we gotta get humans added to the bestiaries and monster manuals. Humans don't get a pass on being considered monsters 😤

Also I've seen mermaids considered monstergirls as well which seems similar. But like, if a harpy is a monstergirl then why wouldn't a mermaid be? And I guess if a sylph or other magical sort is a monster then why wouldn't a genie be?

I think Genies would be monsters. Unless they're small and mischievous in which case they would be critters.

I agree with just about every point you make here, and you make some good ones for sure! I have some friends who have absolutely twisted various TTRPG systems to allow for playable genie characters - And we're WELL overdue for that to be an official system with the glow-up you mention.

And yeah, humans need their monstrosity highlighted pretty severely.

I am seeing a lot of excellent evidence that genies are monstergirls, which is awesome, because monstergirls are excellent and wonderful.
