Yeah, it really does. The worst part is that Witch Hat Atelier, a series which actually looks at how much it would suck to live under an elitist cabal of mages, hasn't totally eclipsed it in popularity yet.

What's frustrating is when people insist they can't be expected to put aside their nostalgic fondness for a series that's actively harming innocent people, when that's exactly what we have to do all the time. Some of us were Harry Potter fans back in the day, and one way or another we had to put aside that fondness for it when we learned how terrible the series and the author were being to its audience. So we have to do that all the time if we wanna survive with our sanity intact, but they simply cannot stop themselves from throwing their support behind this one game at minimum.

Then again, I also fell out with the series around the fourth book when I realized something was amiss. That, and also the books were getting way too fucking long :P So that made the transition to hating it a lot easier for me :3 I think that's pretty common for former fans of the series.
