I got laid off a few months ago, but there's a very solid chance I might be getting a new job sometime this week. the way you'll be able to tell is that within five minutes of receiving an offer I will become a cohost Plus! subscriber

My only suggestion would be to take willingness to buy a Plus subscription as a validation of an account and let new users jump the activation queue if they do that.
