When I say “SF6 is hard” I don’t mean on a ground floor level. In many ways, it’s very welcoming to people wanting to pick it up, especially thanks to great design options like Modern Controls
Where I think it gets hard is the intermediate and high level play, after the more basic scrubkiller strata stop working and where you have to manage the full mental stack
Cuz hoo boy SF6’s mental stack is insane. Between all the drive systems and managing your drive gauge and all the new ways that make the corner hell and the way so many characters have purposefully powerful moves again, it’s just a LOT. SF6 is a HARD game to autopilot in and you have to work really hard to force the opponent to play “honest”.
And that fucking rules. I love playing this game and viscerally feeling how much room there is for improvement in myself. So many games in the past 10 years tried to sand down their edges to be more appealing and 6 is the opposite, it sharpened its edges and hey turns out it makes for a more fun and rewarding game to learn
