At the beginning and end of an act, they confront each other; the Demon Spirit gloats about the troubles that befell the hero(ine) and how he plans to thwart their efforts. The Good Spirit rebukes the Demon, and promises to grant the hero(ine) protection on their journey. At the end of the journey, one of the Spirits proclaims victory, while the other vows to continue fighting. Then, a choir steps out to sing glory and/or lament to the hero(ine) and tell the moral of the story.
