Remembering when I was on Twitter it felt like the rules for ethical media consumption were
- never act entitled to a creator's personal life, but also
- you should be aware of any misdeeds they have done, no matter how private, and indeed being unaware of the bad things they've done basically means you support people doing bad things
In practice what this meant is that you were expected to just be kind of ambiently tuned into the whisper networks. This meant that failing to check Twitter at least daily was practically a form of negligence. I barely noticed though, because I was already checking Twitter every day simply because it was something to do.
