Fireflies are one of the best kinds of bugs because they're just so... I mean yeah there's the glowing at night, gorgeous, 100/10 thank you for that treat evolution, but if you get close enough to interact with one– which you easily can!– they are docile.

They fly, competently, but they're pretty slow and it's easy to identify them just from that, even in the daytime. If you stick your hand in their way they will land on your hand, and inspect in puzzlement for a sec, and then trundle towards the highest point (if you want it to keep climbing just keep rotating your hand) before they politely pop their wings out and fly off again. They can't bite or pinch or do anything, they're small and light enough that one crawling on you is barely felt. They are completely unafraid of humans and chill about it. Even if they didn't have the bioluminescence thing going on they'd be noteworthy little insects just for how easy they are to get along with.

Also, while obviously most famous for glowing in the dark, they're not a rare sight during daylight hours, during which they are (in my experience) still pretty easy to identify! Besides the very telling behaviors I just mentioned– insects are not usually so comprehensively chill!– they have a cute black-red-yellow outfit I've never seen another beetle-thing rock:
