not perfect but loved it. loved it loved it loved it. the first FUGA but all my gameplay issues fixed, character personalities developed and a proper second half that escalates (thank you) the harder combat. so many layers and tweaks to character skillsets that keeps fights dynamic, constantly forcing new strategies to counter as effectively as possible. nothing's rote here, there's no fat with repetitive fights that require the same answers nor a necessary grind off to the side, FUGA's roguelikeish linearity makes each choice impactful. it's everything i look for in a turn-based RPG fucking, tight shit.

and it once again stars adorable furry children so honestly, up there as a game in general. they gave Mei a hat!

story was the only weak aspect. it does the polar opposite of 1 and tries to fit a Solatorobo-sized lore-laden plot into a, well a FUGA-sized budget and it gets rushed as hell. easily the worst villain in LTB and a straight copied rehash of an emotional beat from the first game. not as thematically strong as 1 i feel; all the continuity nods are great but this is firmly in franchise territory with more explanation than emotional hook. none of the new elements are given time to breathe.

still, god damn, almost the series' best and definitely is in terms of gameplay. im hoping they take more risks with 3 though, 2's created one of the most flawless foundations ive seen in years, all sorts of ideas are on the table now.

achievement hunting time! and sleep.
