i feel like a monster for saying this but it's so bizarre playing early WW2 shooters and seeing barely any blood whatsoever. Allied Assault was the major example, no matter what gun you used, enemies would fall over with a white puff of smoke. if i had to speculate, i'm guessing it's to avoid cheapening the original historical event with "videogame violence" but... like, you're already playing as a superhero allied soldier who takes on hundreds of nazis, i think notions of taste went out the window from day one.
even putting aside realism, it's just not satisfying. im not asking for the butcher's here, just a slight acknowledgment that a weapon im holding isn't shooting paintballs. all the ballistics in the world can't sell the bad guy going "ooh owie my tummy" and lying down.
