oh so that's why symphony of the night is considered a classic: it's nearly 3am and im addicted to the metroidvania equivalent of crack.
it's the polar opposite of metroid's streamlined, elegant mechanics; here it's just LOADS OF STUFF ALL OVER THE PLACE. loads of upgrades, loads of items, loads of weapons, spells, powerups, bosses so many bosses and they're all totally unique and look amazing all hiding in completely new sections hidden behind room after room after room that loops together. it just never fucking ends.
the sheer detail too. you can summon familiars right? little guys who help during fights. i chose the fairy since she throws some support my way occasionally. that's it! that's all i thought she did but no! i walked past a hallway ive explored a bunch of times and, completely out of nowhere, she suddenly says "hey, i think there's something behind this wall."
she has fully voiced lines, she even points to what she's referring to. jesus fucking christ.
