im still in the dark about sonic movie 3 (intentionally) but my biggest concern, outside of pacing issues, is whether keanu reeves can actually sound in-character. he's a pretty obvious example of stunt casting, yknow to get a big name on the poster during his career resurgence, and though i enjoy him in live-action... his VA history, not so much? i've seen his recent forays into voice-acting like Toy Story 4 and it's literally just keanu's normal voice, it's extremely distracting.
granted, this aversion to celebrity casting could also apply to idris elba and he killed it as knuckles. would i prefer if the films stuck to their videogame actors, or at least the VA industry in general? absolutely, god knows they need the work and that's still a sticking point, but im holding out hope. i just want to hear shadow and not neo.
