On this day, 7/4 in 2019, I absolutely obliterated my spine for the second time in my life. I already had a herniated disc that caused scoliosis that I had to go to extensive PT for for 2 years. It was mostly healed by that point. Anyways, July 4th 2019 my cat, Simba, desperately wanted to go outside for a bit, so I said ok, it's 10am, should be fine. I put his leash and harness on and we go outside so he can go eat grasshoppers or whatever. However, someone nearby decided 10AM is a good time to start setting off mortar fireworks, which scared my guy and he clotheslined me with the leash in his attempt to escape. I fell straight on my back and immediately knew I was hurt Bad. Through my panic I could see there's a contractor in the next yard over but he was wearing headphones and couldn't hear me shout for help. I was home alone at that moment, and knew it would be a while before anyone could find me, and of course my phone was inside. Simba, still panicking, was thankfully still leashed to me, and I managed to summon every ounce of willpower to stand up and get him inside. I spent the next 8 hours on the floor and called out of my new job that I was only a few weeks into working. I was sure I was going to be fired (I wasn't, thank God). X-rays showed 5 herniated discs and noticeable scoliosis still. I never went to PT for that injury since I was uninsured. Took me several weeks before I could walk fully upright again.

Moral of this story is don't fucking set off fireworks are you insane. Especially at 10am in a neighborhood. What the hell

That sucks so muc! People are so inconsiderate when it comes to fireworks :( I about lost my shit the other night. I accidentally fell asleep and by the time I woke up, it was past 9pm. I needed to take the dog out potty before the city fireworks went off. I took Cheryl out and the neighbor kid (who looks under 13 btw) was lighting fireworks (his dad was there tho). I asked if he could wait a minute or two before lighting off the next one so Cheryl could go. This kid was like... itching to light off another firework and I heard him say to someone else "I'm gonna do it anyways" and hanging around with lighter in hand. Thankfully Cheryl finished her business before he lost his patience but jfc.
