been listening to the podcast Sold a Story, which is an education reporter covering how kids over the last twoish decades have not been taught how to read properly in a majority of america due to "experts in the field" just teaching dogshit to teachers who then teach that dogshit to students (to be clear i dont blame this on the teachers. mostly just the institution of education in america/some other english speaking countries). And i was chalking a lot of the "kids these days cant [insert basic education thing]" to covid but thinking back i mean i had a LOT of peers who couldnt read for peanuts growing up, and a lot of adults around me with rather low literacy and i wonder if its just since i was reading before i entered the american education system that i ended up lucky and could read just fine...
