I posted a bit ago about how pots is being newly studied more and more now and apparently new research suggests the reason we have brain fog is actually related to reduced blood flow in the brain when upright. I feel so validated in thinking I'm smarter when I'm laying down. I don't know how I never associated that with POTS. I guess I tend to assume I'm medicated and therefore Cured™️ but like obviously my medication fixes 1 (one) symptom enough to stop me fainting but doesn't really fix the other things at all. like I still have a disability I just forget it causes a shit ton of other problems.

when I was diagnosed in 2017 all we really had was "pots causes low blood pressure and inappropriate high heart rate to correct the low blood pressure, which causes fainting" but now it's really seemed to complete this clear picture of autonomic dysfunction on a much bigger scale. like my stomach issues, my cognitive functioning issues (outside of my ADHD, brain fog to me feels a lot different), my malaise, my nuropathy, everything. all thanks to getting pneumonia eleven years ago.

idk where I was going with this other than God I need To Keep Up With Science

Not the person you are asking, but I have been on Bystolic (generic name Nebivolol) 5mg for maybe 2 years now? And I honestly, as long as I take my meds, my symptoms are very well managed. The only time I really get a POTS flair is when I am sick/burn out. I still have elevated HR and stange BP, but apparently it just doesn't affect me like it used to. I also still have a bit of heat sensitivity, but I could also blame that on thyroid issues.
I was previously on propranolol, which is also a common one given to people with POTS. It was helping, but not as much as Bystolic does. The only reason I asked for a med change was because it was making my hair fall out. I guess it's a somewhat common side effect 😔

I take atenolol (brand name Tenormin), a beta blocker. I tried propranolol before I was diagnosed (for migraines) but was actually allergic to it so ymmv on that one. But 25mg of atenolol a day keeps my BP high enough that I don't faint or vomit all the time. my heart rate still rests around 120 BPM tho but that's not so bad, I'm just sweaty and tired a lot I guess. one missed dose and I feel godawful and bedridden so I know it's working hard
