He inherited his family's estate at a young age, and discovered a family history of occult study, capturing his interest and priming him for the sudden day when Magic became a real thing again. Now he plums the depths of his library and any scrap of arcane lore he can find in the world for more information, while acting as a Magic-based hero to put his research into practical application.
While he's technically modestly rich, he lives extremely humbly and rarely spends his money on anything besides old books and spell components. His dinky girly backpack is a result of him buying the cheapest one he could find.
Here he is with his pact-bound demon and hero-antics partner, Zzzizka! As a shadow imp, she's the lowest tier bottom-rung loser of her region of hell, so getting summoned by an arcane practitioner to provide knowledge and demonic spell-casting power is honestly a major win for her. Unfortunately, she's also a boy-and-girl-crazed gremlin with a serious potato chip addiction.
When they'e out and about, she hangs out as a series of inky tattoos on his body, sometimes manifesting as whiplike grabby hands or other useful shapes in a fight.
