Napoléon!! I loved these books, I had the whole set. I read them all so many times as a kid.

"I will bring insects to live in my room. And every day I will catch some and feed the salamanders. And I will make little pools of water on top of the boulders so they can drink whenever they are thirsty."

The Snowy Day still gets to me every time I read it. A simple adventure for a young kid, telling his mom about them while she helps get him into a bath, and the sad dream followed by the wondrous confrontation with his friend the next day. Perfectly mundane and beautiful.
